Shoddy tile removal - floor repair in Bedford, NH

Customer called with a complaint of a previous contractor installing a tile floor in Bedford, New Hampshire with uneven tiles, lippage and varying grout widths. They were unhappy with the work this other installer did and wanted a quote to repair. After the tile floor removal we uncovered a patched, improper subfloor installation. The other workers had cut corners, using wall sheathing as a floor substrate. And then quickly going over it. This is a weaker, unsuitable floor structure that ultimately could have caused a disaster. Especially being underneath a toilet and a bathroom cabinet vanity. We removed the shoddy patchwork and cut in matching subfloor material. Being that it was only half inch wood, we went over that existing subfloor with a second layer of half inch plywood to strengthen the floor. Using a construction adhesive in between the two layers of plywood, and then screw fasteners. We then installed an uncoupling membrane, Schluter Ditra, as a tile anti-fracture measure.

Radiant heat slate tile floor for mud room in Amherst, NH

Customer from Amherst, New Hampshire called about a cement slab floor they have in mud room being too cold in winter months. They have a large dog and felt bad for leaving him out there sometimes while they tried to get work done from home. The customer did some research online on benefits of a heated tile floor. And also found a really nice mosaic style pattern slate tile from Cle tile . They invited me over to get a quote for tiling their mud room floor over a radiant heat system. I explained a couple systems and ultimately decided on Schluter Ditra Heat. As it is readily available, competitively priced, and carries a warranty against defect. And then also informed a new fuse would need to be run from the garage to the mud room wall by their electrician to tie into the new thermostat for their heated tile floor installation. I measured the area and the customers ordered a pallet of slate tile from the manufacturer in varying sizes. As they wanted a custom set floor tile layout for a

Old kitchen floor removed and 12x24 tile installed in Hooksett, NH

Sue called, and said she had a tile floor installed in Hooksett, NH a couple decades ago by a neighborhood friend. It was an off white, dinged wide grout lines and a little outdated looking. She found my number on the internet and called to schedule us to remove the old tile and install some 12x24 porcelain tile She and her husband looked at Floor & Decor in Nashua. Me and my helper started demo on ripping up the old tile. We use an old school hammer and flatbar method of labor that is tried and true. It gets the body worn down after only an hour or so, so I called my finance's brother Justin as reinforcement to finish the hallway with some sledge pounds. My helper Josh picked up the pieces and brought debris out to truck to take to dump. Swept floor and sponged clean on way out. For foot courtesy to the homeowners. And because the old dog they have likes to plop down at random places. Next day we mudded the subfloor and rolled out some Schluter Ditra membrane as a crack preven

Checkerboard tile floor installed in Manchester, NH

Customer called with a couple of 2ft x 2ft porcelain tiles from Daltile in Derry that they wanted installed in their kitchen floor in a checkerboard pattern. They had just had new cabinetry and quartz countertops put in before Thanksgiving. And were hoping to have a new kitchen to entertain in before New Year's Eve. Which we accomplished before Christmas. There was an inclination that the pre-existing sheet flooring may have been put down decades ago with an adhesive containing asbestos. So, instead of doing a demo that may put that into the air, we used two rolled coats of Prime-N-Bond by Laticrete over the floor covering. The homeowners enter through a garage door into the house after work. So the layout was based on the entry hall going into kitchen. The lady of the house really had her heart set on a diamond pattern tile layout. Although their home in Manchester doesn't have the most grandiose space. It is sufficient enough to move around. (And I wasn't really bumping i
